The Public Works Department is responsible for the following:
Planning the County's transportation system, as well as the construction and maintenance of County highways, State aid highways, bridges, and parks within the County
Purchasing the right of way required for construction and maintenance
Employing inspectors to assure specifications in contracts
The cost of constructing and maintaining the County transportation system is financed from many sources. These include state and federal grants and allocations, and a portion of local taxes designated as the Road and Bridge Levy.
