Environmental Services

Functions


The Environmental Services department develops and administers programs to protect ground water and surface water, and management of solid waste in Blue Earth County. The Department is made of the following three general divisions.

Land Use Division


Responsibilities include Planning and Zoning, Construction Permits, Feedlots, Shoreland, and Floodplain Management.

Environmental Health Division


Responsibilities include programs related to Septic Systems, Water Management Planning, Wells, Well Sealing, and Wetlands.

Waste & Recycling Division


This division operates the Household Hazardous Waste Facility and the Ponderosa Landfill. The division is also responsible for programs related to Hazardous Waste, Medical Waste, Recycling, and Solid Waste.
