Ditch Happenings June 29th - July 3rd

Posted on July 2, 2015 at 3:33 PM by Acacia Wytaske

Craig and I belong to a group called the South Central Drainage Group, which is made up of ditch managers and inspectors from the surrounding counties; Watonwan, Jackson, Waseca, Freeborn, Faribault and Martin. We typically meet on a monthly basis to discuss projects, grant opportunities, joint ditches and to collaborate county guidelines.  On Monday, Craig attended the meeting held in Blue Earth and the main two topics discussed were the development of a new inspectors app to use for reporting ditch repairs through our DrainageDB portal, and a grant available through the Greater Blue Earth River Basin Alliance (GBERBA).

On Tuesday, Craig and I attended the public hearing for the replacement of a culvert on Old Highway #14 on Waseca/Blue Earth County Joint Judicial Ditch 11 (JD11 Waseca - McPherson Township). The request was approved. After the hearing we were treated to a guest appearance by Kurt Deter, from Rinke Noonan Law Office. He did a short presentation on the new Buffer Bill... pretty fascinating stuff, folks!

The Buffer Bill is a hot topic in the drainage world right now. If you'd like to learn more, consider attending this great upcoming event:
