Ditch Happenings August 24th - 28th

We took a little road trip to Olivia this week to attend the Renville Drainage Authority acceptance of the Redetermination of Benefits on their Judicial Ditch No. 22. We heard a new team of viewer's present their reports. We are always on the look out for more viewers!

Cool Event Alert -
Join the University of Minnesota and local NRCS and farmer partners as they host a
Cover Crop Learning Tour
just southwest of
The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. with concurrent tour stations. Attendees will rotate through four stations where they will be able to discuss the following:
University research on early interseeding cover crops, use of perennial kura clover, and relay cropping soil health indicators and tests farmer experiences with cover crops and related programs and a demonstration plot with various types of cover crops and planting dates.
A short break for lunch (meal guaranteed for pre-registered attendees) will be followed by an equipment demonstration. Equipment will include those for cover crop establishment (Pennsylvania State Interseeder, high-clearance vehicle, RowBot, etc.) and termination (rotary zone tiler and strip-till unit).

Weekly Tidbits -
- You are one of the first people to find out that the
(Vernon Center & Garden City Townships) Redetermination of Benefits Reports have been submitted to the Assessor's office. What's the process from here? First Craig & I will review the reports word for word - number by number, study each formula used and double check all roads were included and listed correctly. We check for recent land splits and property transfers. That process typically take 2-4 business days, depending on the current workload in our department. Then we send the reports back to the viewers to correct any errors and to update any changes. Once we receive the final report, we submit it to the Drainage Authority at which point they will set a date for the Final Improvement and Redetermination of Benefits Hearing. After the date for the hearing is set, we will send out details of the redetermination of benefits to each landowner and offer an opportunity for the landowner to meet with the viewers to discuss the determined benefits. Look for upcoming events for CD78!
