Ditch Happenings May 26th - 29th

Posted on June 1, 2015 at 8:16 AM by Acacia Wytaske

At the Blue Earth County Board of Commissioners Meeting, I presented 3 items. Craig is usually there to present, however, he was out of state welcoming his first grandchild into the world. (Congratulations, Craig!)

  1. For inspection reports: Beaver Dam removal on CD56 and repairs to a washout and sloughing to an open ditch portion on JD09 LeRay were approved.
  2. A public hearing on the petition for removal of property and partial abandonment of CD96 was set for 9:45 a.m. on June 23rd, 2015.  Notices will be sent to the landowners on CD96 and also published online.
  3. In 2012, MnDOT petitioned the Blue Earth County Drainage Authority to move portions of the JD38 main tile line out from under TH30 on the east side of Amboy. The cost of moving the tile line was paid for by MnDOT. At the time, the Cooperative Construction Agreement wasn't signed, so at this board meeting we were tying up loose ends by obtaining signatures for the Agreement and for the Resolution regarding the agreement.

Wednesday afternoon, the Waseca - Blue Earth County Joint Ditch Authority met to review a petition by MnDOT to replace a culvert on JTD11 which involves minor alteration or change in the public drainage system as a result of DOT highway work on Waseca County Road #14. A public hearing date was set for 2:00 p.m. on June 30th, 2015, at the Waseca County Board of Commissioners Room, located at the East Annex, 300 N. State Street, Waseca. Notices will be mailed to the landowners and published in the Free Press.

Weekly Tidbits:

 - The 2nd Annual Ag Drainage Workshop is in the works! This year a major topic will be buffer strips, of course! Watch for more info on this event in the near future.  In the meantime, if buffer strips have your attention, check out the letter we received from Kurt Deter explaining the Riparian Protection and Water Quality Practices Act known as 103F.48.  His letter explains the facts. It can be found in the DrainageDB portal under "Misc. drainage" all the way at the bottom of the page.

Off to the scanner.JPG- Off to the scanners! These days everything is going digital, including our historical ditch files.  These boxes hold 2 of the 17 drawers full of ditch files being sent off to the imaging department for scanning.  Once they are scanned in and uploaded, you and others will have these records at your fingertips through our online ditch portal; DrainageDB.

 - The advertisement for bids on the repair of CD12 Phase 1 has been published.  The bids will be opened electronically on June 9th at 2:00pm.

 - Did you know there are 3 different JD09's in Blue Earth County?  JD09 Brown is a joint ditch with Brown County in Cambria Township. JD09 LeRay is in LeRay Township of Blue Earth County. JD09 Faribault is a joint ditch with Faribault County in Mapleton Township.  You'll be seeing more information on JD09 Faribault and JD09 LeRay in the coming weeks, there are active projects on both these ditches.
