Ditch Happenings June 1st - 5th

Posted on June 12, 2015 at 9:14 AM by Acacia Wytaske

This week started off with a field day! Jessica Nelson - GreenCorps Member of Mankato Water Resource Center, Tina Warta - Le Sueur Watershed Coordinator of Blue Earth County SWCD, Craig Austinson and I, along with members of the Le Sueur River Watershed Citizen Advisory Committee all gathered for an educational tour of JD09 LeRay lead by Engineer Chuck Brandel and Assistant Kyle Sammons of I&S Group.  The Blue Earth County Drainage Authority received a petition from landowners to improve the main tile line of JD09 LeRay. The tour was to discuss possible options for water storage and wetland management that would be considered during the project. Here are some pictures from the tour:

The petition, tour map, Engineer's Feasibility Study and other documents pertaining to this project are available to view in the DrainageDB portal under "JD09".

Have you noticed a green ATV cruising along the ditch? That's Craig doing our state mandated annual inspections. We inspect 20% of the ditches each year to comply with State Statute 103E.705 Sub. 1.  Craig has completed just under 1/2 of this year's list, and will be out again all next week wrapping them up.
Ditches being inspected this year are; JTD83 Waseca, CD95, CD96, CD98, JTD02 Le Sueur, JTD11 Waseca, JD01 LeSueur, JD09 Faribault, JD15 Le Sueur, CD16, CD26, CD29, CD35, CD57 & JD22. I've highlighted these ditches in the picture below:

The inspection reports will be available in DrainageDB as they are completed.
