Drainage update 6/10/2016

Project updates:

Nothing major to report from last week as far as project updates.  I was able to get ahold of a picture of that rock the size of a small car.  Cooreman Contracting is doing the work on the CD34 project and yanked the beast out.

I imagine it would make for a wonderful center piece in someone’s garden.
Good luck moving it around easily or cheaply.

Water quality improvement partnership:

A special recognition goes out to Land O’Lakes Inc. and Governor Dayton.  Land O’Lakes Inc. and the state of Minnesota entered into a one of a kind partnership.  Land O’Lakes is a very large company that includes retail agricultural cooperatives that work with thousands of farmers in our state.  Their partnership with the state of Minnesota will work to expand the voluntary participation in the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program.  As a first of its kind, it’s making some national news.  Click the link below for more information on the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program;

To go along with some of these new practices that are included in the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program, there is a field day coming up to look at these farming and water quality practices in real-life situations.  Thanks to numerous sponsors that help put this field day together and also to the Nordick Farms family, it’s going to be a very educational day.  Here’s a postcard for the information on this event.

Recent Drainage Inspections – week of June 6 – June 10

The following drainage systems were reviewed by county staff this past week.  Below are a few notes from those inspections.  The full reports for specific issues will be in the June 21st County Board packet, which will be available week of June 13th.

·         JD07 (Lincoln Twp.): Very few issues to report on this system.  There is a concern for some areas of noxious weeds and one large slough area that is impeding the flow of the open ditch.

·         JD48 (Butternut Valley Twp.): Overall this system is one of the best I’ve inspected yet so far this year.  There are some large issues with noxious weeds, but structurally the ditch is in very good shape.

Upcoming Drainage Inspections – week of June 13 – 17

·         JD24 (Shelby Twp.)

·         CD91 (Sterling Twp.)

·         JD116 (Pleasant Mound Twp.)

·         CD89 (Pleasant Mound Twp.)

·         JD85 (Pleasant Mound Twp.)

·         JD82 (Pleasant Mound Twp.)

Allergy Season:

If you’re a seasonal allergy suffer like myself, then you know exactly what I mean when I say “we’re under attack from pollen”.  Pollen levels have been extremely high in the last week.  All the meds in the world won’t stop every allergy attack, especially if you’re an outdoor enthusiast like myself.  So to my fellow allergy suffers: remember those allergy meds and sunscreen and get out there and enjoy the Minnesota outdoors.
