Buffer Laws Info and Storm Damage

Drainage update 6/10/2016

Project updates:

Projects for this week are pretty much at a standstill after our last major episode of weather this week.  I apologize, but once again not much to report on projects.

New options for farmer to meet pending buffer law requirements:

Minnesota growers now have a new option when considering the upcoming buffer law requirements.  BWSR (Board of Water and Soil Resources) passed a new resolution stating certification in the Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certification Program passes as an approved water quality practice and actually would be a stricter program than just a buffer alone.  This certification would also mean they are compliant for any new buffer law regulations.  The BWSR board decided to do this because it will deliver even greater benefits than just buffer strips alone.  This is an existing program and is a partnership between multiple government agencies including USDA, MPCA, and DNR.

Storm Damage:

After the storms that ripped through our area on Tuesday afternoon, we were left with quite the mess in some areas of the county.  I’m sure that we will be discovering even more damage in the next week as the high water levels of our ditches finally reside.  If you see or hear of any concerns, whether it’s a county open ditch or county tile system, please call us and report it.  We have been taking a few calls and I imagine more will come as water levels drop.  Big issue or small issue; please feel free to call and notify us at the Drainage Management office.  Some pictures I captured from the storm damage this week are below.
