Court
Recommendations
Dan L. Wiley & Associates, Inc. (DWA), a nationally recognized and experienced
court facility and operations consulting firm, studied the current use
and safety of the Blue Earth County Courthouse and provided a judicial
space needs assessment for a potential new courts facility. The evaluation
of the Courthouse identified problems which need to be addressed.
Based on their review, DWA had the following conclusions about the Blue
Earth County Courthouse:
- The existing courthouse building does not have enough space for present
and future requirements of the courts.
- The courthouse was built for another time (smaller, slower, less
complicated) and though wonderfully renovated, is losing its capacity
to accommodate the demands of a modern court system operation.
- Despite its external beauty and stunning image, it is no longer a
sufficient and operationally suitable accommodation for the courts.
- Even if county functions were to be relocated, the structure of the
building would appear to preclude the installation of appropriate prisoner
elevators and the development of secure circulation for judicial officers
and courts staff as present court related standards and guidelines would
require.
DWA recommended the courts be relocated to a facility more supportive
of modern security, operational and spatial requirements.
