The Blue Earth County Extension Service utilizes the research-based resources from the University of Minnesota to meet the needs and issues of citizens and communities in the County. Extension Service programs and information are available in six broad subject matter categories: 4-H and Youth Development, Agriculture, Food and Environment, Horticulture, Family Development, Environment and Natural Resources, and Community Development.

A team of Regional Extension Educators that are faculty members of the University of Minnesota are available in each of these program categories. The Extension Service delivers programs and information in several ways, including radio, television, newspapers, web sites, workshops, and group meetings.

The County Extension Service is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture, the University of Minnesota, and Blue Earth County. Locally, the Extension Service is directed by the County Extension Committee made up of two County Commissioners and seven citizens appointed by the County Board of Commissioners.
