| Blue Earth County is Testing Cold In-place Recycling
on CSAH 20 |
| The Blue Earth County Public Works Department is testing
"Cold In-Place Recycling (CIR)" on CSAH 20 north of Lake Crystal.
|
| CIR is a process that is being researched by Blue Earth County
in collaboration with the Local Road Research Board, Mn/DOT, and Koch
Pavement Solutions. The results of the research project will help
determine how cost-effective the CIR process is, and how the current
construction procedures and requirements can be adjusted to take advantage
of the increased structural strength. |
|
| Blue Earth County will directly benefit from having
a better understanding of the engineering properties and structural
strength of the CIR materials - resulting in a lower construction
cost. The ultimate benefactor will be the public with lower-costing,
more durable roads. Because CIR involves recycling older road materials,
an additional benefit is the preservation of natural resources. |
|
Through the research project, Blue Earth County is testing whether
the new process provides:
- Better coating of the millings
- Better stability under traffic
- Increased asphalt binder content
- Quicker cure time
|
| Blue Earth County hopes to have the final research
results within the next year. For more information about the research
project contact Blue Earth County Public Works Director Al Forsberg
at 304-4025. |
