Is payment in full required the day of the sale?
Yes payment in full is required; we accept cash, check or money orders. We are unable to accept credit cards and do not offer any financing.
How do I register for the tax sale?
Registration is not necessary, just show up to place a bid.
Do you allow investors to invest at the tax sale without attending the sale?
Bidders must be present at our sales.
What type of deed is used to transfer title?
The state will issue a State Deed which has the characteristics of a patent from the state or is similar to a Quit Claim Deed. If you would like an explanation on how this type of deed affects the ownership & title, please contact an attorney.
What happens to the properties that do not sell at the auction? Can you purchase them directly from the County?
Properties that do not sell are available over the counter in the Taxpayer Services Department in the Historic Courthouse for the basic sale price listed until they are reappraised.
How often do you hold tax sales?
We usually hold them once a year in late November or December. They are advertised in The Free Press and the sales list is also available on the website or over the counter in the Taxpayer Services Department in the Historic Courthouse at 410 204 S. Fifth Street in Mankato. You may also request to be on our mailing list. This request must be made each year you're interested since the request does not carry over from year to year. Notices may be sent by e-mail (stacy.thorson@co.blue-earth.mn.us) or regular mail.
